frazione San Germano

In 2017, I spent several months in the village where my wife grew up, located in Piedmont, northern Italy. The village, San Germano, sits in a glacial valley at the foot of the Alps and it’s what´s called a frazione, a small community that belongs to the larger municipality of Borgofranco d'Ivrea.

Although I had visited the place many times before, I had never found the area particularly interesting for photography. The landscape shows evidence of long-time human presence, with mountain paths lined by the remains of houses, walls, abandoned trails, and stone columns, used as support for growing vines.

During my time there, I had the opportunity for the first time to explore these paths while holding a camera. With this ongoing series, I began to see the landscape differently and started incorporating the human elements I had always avoided.
