frazione San Germano

In 2017, I spent several months in San Germano, the village in Piedmont (northern Italy) where my wife grew up. Nestled in a glacial valley at the foot of the Alps, San Germano is a frazione, a small community within the larger municipality of Borgofranco d'Ivrea. Although I had visited the area many times before, I had never considered it particularly compelling for photography.

The landscape bears traces of long human presence: mountain paths lined with the ruins of houses, abandoned trails, and stone pillars once used to support vineyards. For the first time, I began exploring these paths with a camera in hand. Through this ongoing series, I started to view the landscape differently, embracing the human elements I had always avoided.

These and other photographs are available in the form of two zines, here (Issue I) and here (Issue II).
